BARRY LENNOX : 1935 ? - 2012
Barry Lennox died of Motor Neurone Disease in Teignmouth, Devon, on 3rd November 2012. He was 77. His beloved wife Jayne had predeceased him.
Barry was one of those special people who leave a happy legacy from each phase of their lives. From his childhood and schooling, from his career in Rhodesia, and from his final years after return to Britain, those who knew him hold warm memories.
He was educated at Dartford Grammar School from 1946 to 1951, and then emigrated to Rhodesia, joining the Native Department, later known as Internal Affairs or INTAF. He did his National Service at Nkomo Barracks and elsewhere, and later became a Vedette in the Internal Affairs National Service Unit during the war period of the 1970s.
Barry served in the Administration and Development sections of Internal Affairs, and one of his many tasks was a mutually rewarding liaison with the Tribal Trust Land Development Corporation (or TILCOR as it was commonly known). In the course of his wider duties he came to know Intaf staff on many of the country?s fifty district stations. His close contact with staff served him well when he eventually became President of the Rhodesian Public Services Association.
While still in Rhodesia he was closely involved with Public Service pension matters, an involvement which continued after his return to Britain in 1980. In May 1981 he was elected to the Council of the Overseas Services Pensioners Association, and eventually became the longest standing member with 27 years service. He strove tirelessly to get the British government to honour its obligations to Rhodesian Government pensioners.
In recognition of all he was doing in the pensions field, he was made an Associate Member of the United Kingdom Branch of the BSAP Regimental Association in 2005.
